Local 570 Convention Delegates, Alternates Elected on White Ballot
Jan. 12, 2021 Nominations for four delegates and three alternates to the 2021 International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention to be held in June were conducted Sunday, January 10th at our monthly membership meeting in Baltimore. Because the number of nominees did not exceed the number of delegates (7) to be nominated (thus the use of the term white ballot), the candidates were declared duly elected by Kevin McDermott, past Principal Officer of Local 570, who oversaw the meeting. Delegates are Sean Cedenio, Secretary-Treasurer; Richard Brown, President; Moses Jackson Jr, Vice President; and Joseph Fowler, Recording Secretary. Alternates are Angelo Wilson, Karen Miller, Larry Kelly, Trustees. The size of the membership determines the number of delegates and alternates to which the Local Union is entitled. Official posting of IBT nomination results here.

Teamster Staement on Cancelation of Keystone Pipeline
Jan. 21, 2021 |“The Teamsters strongly oppose yesterday’s decision, and we would urge the administration to reconsider it. This executive order doesn’t just affect U.S. Teamsters; it hurts our Canadian brothers and sisters as well who work on this project. It will reduce good-paying union jobs that allow workers to provide a middle-class standard of living to their families. America needs access to various forms of energy that can keep its economy running in the years ahead. This decision will hurt that effort.

“Going forward, we expect the President to boost U.S. workers by allowing them to come together and negotiate for better wages, benefits and retirement security as his administration pushes forward with policies that grow good-paying jobs that support American families.

“The Teamsters know that President Biden is a friend to workers. The President’s past words and deeds have shown us that is true. This union looks forward to working together with him on policy and programs that create good-paying jobs with strong labor standards.”

School Bus, Transit Workers Are High Priority for Covid-19 Vaccine
Jan. 22, 2021  | “The vaccination of frontline workers is essential to their protection and the protection of the public-at-large,” said Rick Middleton, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 572 and Director of the Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division in a statement issued today. “Much attention has been given to the heroic workers who have continued to keep our country functioning during this terrible time – those in industries like the supply chain and health care are owed an immeasurable debt of gratitude. We shouldn’t forget, however, another group of workers who are owed that same debt – those in school buses and transit. These unsung heroes have continued to transport our most precious cargo throughout this calamity – elderly and disabled citizens who have nobody else to turn to, other essential workers who rely on public transportation to get to work, and of course, our children…” Continued here
