Today in Labor History

Apr. 8, 1935
The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was approved by Congress. President Franklin Roosevelt proposed the WPA during the Great Depression of the 1930s when almost 25 percent of Americans were unemployed. It created low-paying federal jobs that provided immediate relief, putting 8.5 million jobless to work on projects ranging from construction of bridges, highways and public buildings to arts programs like the Federal Writers’ Project.

Important Note to Applicant: Your company will not know you have completed and submitted an authorization card to Teamsters Local Union 570. The information you provide is confidential and will be viewed only by Teamster officials and the National Labor Relations Board.
It is likely that your employer's representatives will make negative assertions and comments to keep you from filling out a union authorization card, so take the time to think — Why??? Why would the company do that?
If you have any questions, or would like to find out more about attaining union representation, please call us at 410-284-5081 and ask for the Organizing Department.

I authorize Local 570, affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, to represent me in negotiations for better wages, hours, strong benefits and a voice in my future.
