Updated! Code Red Extreme Heat Alert Issued for Baltimore Region
Sept. 5, 2023 | HEALTH & SAFETY | As temperatures ticked toward triple digits and broke at least one century-old record, Baltimore City Health Department officials declared a Code Red extreme heat alert through Thursday. “Excessive heat is the leading weather-related killer in the United States,” Acting Health Commissioner Mary Beth Haller said in a statement Monday announcing the alert. July 26, 2023 | HEALTH & SAFETY | The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas. Tomorrow through Saturday, heat index levels are projected to rise above 105 degrees. Factoring in the humidity, it’s expected to feel like 100 degrees and close to 110 on Thursday and Friday. In addition, smoke from the Canadian wildfires will degrade air quality levels in the region. |
