Updated On: Jan 10, 2013

Jan. 10, 2013 | U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis resigned yesterday. Solis, who grew up in a large Mexican-American family in California and is the daughter of a Teamster shop steward, wrote in a statement, " I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to serve in a president's Cabinet, let alone in the service of such an incredible leader…There is still much to do, but we are well on the road to recovery and middle class Americans know the President is on their side." IBT president Jim Hoffa thanked Secretary Solis in a statement for "everything she has done over the past four years at the Labor Department to help working men and women achieve fairness and dignity on the job. She will be missed." Solis will return to her home state of California to "begin a new future," a future that may include a run for Los Angeles County Supervisor next year. Her resignation follows accomplishments, frustrations at the Labor Dept. Update: Who might replace Solis?
